R-5 Reading:
Relax, Read, Reflect, Respond, Rap
To encourage students to read more independently, R-5 is used during flex.
Relax, Read, Reflect, Respond, Rap
Relax – no talking, getting up, going to the restroom. Classroom needs to be free of disruptions during this time. Students must have a book!
Read – Spend at least 10 minutes reading without any interruptions.
Reflect & Respond – Students find a stopping place and make a written response in their reading logs.
Rap – Students chat with one another about their books. Then they share information about their partners book to the whole class.
